Berenguer penalty lifts Athletic past Real Sociedad 2-1

Álex Berenguer converted a penalty in first-half stoppage time to give Athletic a 2-1 win over Real Sociedad at San Mamés. It was the last goal of the match, and it came just before the break.

Iñaki Williams opened the scoring in the 14th minute. He shot right footed from the centre of the box after Nico Williams sent him through with a ball. Luka Sucic pulled Real Sociedad level at 1-1 in the 30th minute with a left footed shot from outside the box into the bottom right corner.

Then came the 45'+2' penalty. Berenguer sent a right footed shot down the centre and Athletic went ahead 2-1. Neither side scored after halftime. Berenguer, the player of the game with a 7.3 Chirp Rating, took a team-high five shots along with his goal.

Athletic moves to 4-3-3. Real Sociedad falls to 6-1-4. Chirp's Sim had Athletic at 48% before the game, so this was close to a coin flip.
