A great win for Newcastle with a better second-half display. Woodgate made a great debut. But though Bobby Robson will be delighted with a hard-fought win, Chelsea and Ranieri, after successive losses, will be unhappy.

Cole and Gallas nearly combine to get a chance. Did Woodgate push Cole? No, says the ref. Chelsea had a shout.

Bobby Robson looks anxious but his team look to be coasting. Though Zola gets space to shoot. He can't hit the target though and misses.

Into stoppage time. Shola Ameobi seizes on a slip to get in. He slides the ball left but misses his intended target of Shearer.

Morris lacks the pace to chase a ball down the flanks. Chelsea look to be running out of time and ideas.

Gudjohnsen cuts in. He can't get away from Griffin who got back well.

Kieron Dyer, after another fine display, is replaced by Shola Ameobi.

Sliding cross came in. Bernard challenged by Hasslebaink - unfairly says the ref.

Cole claimed for a corner. He doesn't get it.

Hard chase by Speed but he's stopped. Chelsea can't get away though.

Hoofed high by Bramble. Cudicini claims the ball.

Dyer makes a forcefull run. Cole hacks him down and is rather harshly booked.

Gudjohnsen found in an offside position when he seemed to have got behind the back.

A mass of forwards take on a massed defence. A corner the result. Bramble clears that.

On comes Andy Griffin for Solano - defensive thinking from the septugenarian knight.

Shearer penalised for a push on the two opponents he was trying to beat. At the other end Cole baulks Given when a high ball is shanked high into the air by Bramble.

Chelsea obviously going for broke.

Dyer shows ability and guile to get Solano away. But Bellamy, awaiting the cross, is offside. Babayaro runs off, to be replaced by Carlton Cole.

Bellamy forced to play back to Given. Moments later the keeper does well to beat Zenden's chase down the wing.

Headed away. Bramble takes his place at the heart of defence, a reshuffle sees Bernard pushed forward with O'Brien switched to full-back.

Melchiot fouls Bellamy. Another chance to bend in a free-kick.

Lampard shows neat skill to break up an attack. Hasselbaink gets in a cross. Gudjohnsen looked to be nudged. No dice from the ref. Viana limps off to be replaced by Titus Bramble.

Gudjohnsen released by Zola, he holds it up. Zenden, with his first touch, fires just wide. Good move from the Blues.
