   You look at the pitch and see Owen, Viduka, Duff, and Martins and wonder how on earth Newcastle ended up in this position. Utter mismanagement of the club is a huge factor I feel but ultimately the players haven't shown anywhere near enough. The future looks bleak for the Toon I'm afraid. On the bright side, this might at least bankrupt Mike Ashley. I hope the man is happy with this mess that he's made. What a clown.

   Alan Shearer looks completely gutted as the tears flow in the stands. The story of today has been the story of the season - Newcastle just haven't been good enough. They went out with a whimper in the end, befitting a chaotic season in which decisions at the top have ultimately sealed their fate.

   Emile Heskey wastes time in the corner as the clock runs down on Newcastle's Premier League stint. The full time whistle goes and Newcastle United have been relegated from the top flight.

   David Edgar is sent off for hauling down Ashley Young and that should be that.

   Owen miscontrols an Ameobi pass and gets the last touch so Villa have the throw.

   Enrique crosses this time and Ameobi heads over the bar. A difficult chance but true to form it never looked like creeping in. Taylor is up front now too.

   Four minutes added as Ameobi blasts a volley over the bar. I can't take much more of this.

    Ameobi deomnstrates how utterly useless he is by shooting when Martins was well placed. His shot went miles over the bar you'll be gobsmacked to hear.

    Enrique swings in a cross and Friedel is slow on the uptake but the ball flies just wide.

    Chelsea are 3-1 up at Sunderland, but they are safe now anyway. Reo-Coker is on for Petrov.

    The problem with having three up front is that you surrender possession so easily in other areas of the field.
