Arsenal vs Liverpool

Arsenal, despite all their pressure, needed a dubious penalty to take a share of the points and now move five points clear at the top of the Premiership.

Despite an ultra-defensive start to the game Liverpool will be disappointed to leave with only one point after taking the lead from the spot.

That's the last chance of the match. The ref blows his whistle and the points are shared at Highbury.

....The Brazilian has a great chance to make it 2-1 but his sidefoot shot amazingly goes wide.

Arsenal drive straight down the other end and Bergkamp finds Cole on the wing. The left-back looks up and plays the ball across the face of goal for Gilberto on the back post.....

Murphy drives through the midfield and gets a sight of goal. He hits a curling long-range shot that drifts wide of Seaman's left-hand post.

....Kirkland gets there ahead of the striker and claims the ball with authority.

The bounces between three Liverpool defender's, they all leave the ball to each other and Jeffers races into the box for a header.....

Hyypia steps up to head the ball forward, but he gets too much power behind it and the ball runs through to Seaman.

Campbell loses the ball in defence. Biscan pounces on the ball and hits a 20-yard shot over the crossbar. No composure from the midfielder.

Arsenal aren't. Gilberto drives forward through midfield and Diao is forced to hack down the Brazilian and snub the danger.

Amazingly Houllier has decided to take Baros off and replace him with Biscan. Looks like the manager is settling for a draw.

Riise chips the ball forward to Baros. The striker is giving Campbell a torrid but the Arsenal defender manages to get in a vital tackle.

Arsenal make another change. Van Bronckhorst replaces Pires.

Gerrard's corner sails over everybody and out for a goalkick. A wasted opportunity for Liverpool.

Baros attacks for Liverpool and a last ditch challenge from Lauren results in a corner for the Reds.

Henry delivers a cross from the left. Gerrard can only flick the ball on and Kirkland claims at the back post.

Jeffers had an instant effect and now the game is up for grabs - it could go either way.

No mistake from Henry as he blasts the spot kick high into the back of the net. GOAL!!!!!

Jeffers turns Riise on the edge of the area. The defender sticks out an arm and Jeffers takes a tumble in the box.......

Murphy and Pires battle for the ball. The ref blows for a soft foul and gives Arsenal the freekick.

Arsenal make their change and Jeffers, a former Evertonian, replaces Wiltord.

Only 15 minutes to go as Liverpool hang-on for what would be a crucial victory.

Pires and Lauren combine on the right but can't find a way through the Liverpool defence.
